E.K. Hornbeck is saying many things. First, he is saying that Brady is the hero of the uncilivized people but no there aren't very many of those people left. Modern society is taking over by putting in telephone poles next to trees. Henry's Lizzie is Henry Ford's Model T car and Hornbeck is saying that technology is leaving Brady in its dust. Hornbeck is saying that Brady is no longer as important as he was once thought to be when he calls him the Yesterday-Messiah. Overall, Hornbeck is telling Rachel that Brady is no longer a great man and that the modernists are leaving the fundamentalists behind.
